This work has been created to showcase three very particular, genuine ochre pigments, they are extremely rare and therefore precious ochres from a western part of Iceland, around the volcano Snaefellsjoekull. If you look closely, you can see the tiny particles that have been ground from rocks, as such, you are so close to being in Iceland. Because these pigments are so rare and hard to find, the gold leaf that has been used in this artwork is genuine goldleaf (now also rare and precious).
The gold dots around the artwork represent the thousands of stars you can see in a wild place. And the design itself was influenced by 18th Century Icelandic embroidery patterns.
This artwork is intended to be both symbolically and materially a tacit connection to a time and place of immense beauty and wonder.
