Sustainability
How can art be more sustainable in the new century?
*by learning from the old masters and their techniques

Natural Pigments
Natural pigments are derived from plants, minerals and other natural sources which can be replenished over time.
This contrasts with synthetic pigments which are often produced from finite resources like petroleum and which involve the use of heavy metals and other potentially toxic chemicals in their production.
Advantages
Natural pigments and the materials used to create them, are biodegradable.

The use of natural pigments minimise or eliminate the use of harmful substances, making them safer for both the artist and the environment.

The production of natural pigments require less energy compared to an energy-intensive, industrialised process involved in the making of synthetic equivalents.

Natural pigments have a connection to place, they tell the story of millions of years of earth forming and changing. The inherent colours are nuanced, unique and contribute a special beauty to an artwork
