Paint made with featured ingredient: Genuine tragacanth gum crystals

[Tragacanth gum, green earth, gamboge resin, Dragonsblood resin, lavender oil, pine ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]

A tree gum used in food and medicine since antiquity, tragacanth appears in tempera recipes as an alternative to cherry gum. It forms in long ribbons on the tree and when soaked in water it swells to almost 900%. It must be squeezed through a cloth before adding to paint.
