Paint made with featured ingredient: Genuine snail slime
[Garden snail slime, peach gum, silver mica, calendula ink, clover ink, Australian ochres, green earth, pomegranate ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]
Snail slime has surprisingly strong adhesive qualities. There are tempera recipes that involve holding a snail to a flame causing the snail to desperately try to escape by secreting extra slime. However, for this work, I left a porcelain palette in the garden overnight and the snails kindly obliged by leaving trails of silver, criss crossing the palette, which I then mixed into the paint.
