Paint made with featured ingredient: Genuine Myrrh Resin

[Myrrh resin, tree turpentine, green earth, ground malachite, genuine veridian, pomegranate ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]

 

Similar to Frankincense, the bitter resin from the small spiky Myrrh plant was traditionally used for embalming and artists added it to tempera probably as a preservative for its antiseptic properties. Also it would be boiled with aloe vera and water to make an alternative paint varnish.
