[Fresh breast milk, rose petal ink, iris flower ink, lily ink, calendula and camelia ink, barite white, 24k gold leaf, pomegranate ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]
This tempera recipe goes back to the Mediaeval period when artists were using materials that were close to hand. One can only imagine that as the artist was preparing a paint, not having the pre-requisite cow or goat’s milk, he turned to his nursing wife and the rest is history.
*the artwork was returned to the generous baby who shared the milk in the name of science, a keepsake for now and for ever.
