Paint made with featured ingredient: Genuine historic recipe inks

[Walnut shell ink, sepia ink, pomegranate ink, oak gall ink, acorn ink, pine ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]

Before synthetic pigments, all ink was made with seasonal natural materials and each had its own nuanced shade of black or brown. Not only did artists, such as Da Vinci, use the ink on paper, they would make detailed drawings on their canvas in three shades of grey, a technique known as ‘grisaille’ before layering their coloured paint over the top.
