[Genuine 24K shell gold, 24k gold leaf, gold and silver mica, pine ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]

Gold has been used in art for not only its symbolic and precious nature but its unique ability to be malleable and non-tarnishing. For centuries gold was beaten by hand into gold-leaf to be applied to paintings both on and under the surface of tempera to represent an angelic glow. It was also ground into dust and stored in tiny seashells as a watercolour paint.
