Paint made with featured ingredient: Genuine Ivory (recovered from piano keys)
[Shaved ivory, shaved ebony, white earth, gum arabic, 24k gold leaf, Indian ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]
Throughout the centuries artists would visit the ivory makers for off-cuts to make a rich black pigment. However ivory became most used as a surface for painting miniature portraits which could be worn as jewellery by the wealthy. Thousands of these paintings can be found in museums globally but no longer practiced, the elephants breathe a sigh of relief.
