Dragon's Blood

[Dragonsblood tree resin*, ground black tourmaline, tree bark ink, tree charcoals, green and white earth, ground lapis lazuli, Indian ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]

In Mediaeval times, it was thought that the tree grew in the place where a dragon and elephant had fought. The blood red resin was mixed with sal ammoniac, gum Arabic and minium before being used in manuscript illumination and panel painting.
