[Banksia seed pod ink, banksia pod charcoal, green earth, Australian ochres, Tasmanian rosewood, malachite, eucalyptus gall and wattle ink on traditional gesso on 640gsm archival paper]
From an Old Man banksia in the neighbourhood, for the ink, I adapted a recipe for Walnut ink and found I could extract colour from the seed pods rather than the flowers. Likewise when calcined, following a 15th century method, the pods made a hard but usable black pigment.
